About Russel Milne

What first attracted you to the graphic design industry?

Nothing specifically, I guess it was a series of micro-decisions that ultimately brought me to where I am now. Like most who found themselves at art school, I was always into making things and drawing — although I don’t draw nearly as much these days.

How did you join Creative Graffix?

I graduated university and started the job search along with everyone else. I really liked living in Dundee so I stuck around here whilst most of my classmates scattered around the country. I saw the vacancy advertised, applied, got the job — all seems quite easy in hindsight.

What are the main challenges and what is most rewarding about your role?

One of the most challenging aspects of the job is also the most rewarding. We have to switch gears to work in completely different sectors for each project. We can be working on a subsea robotics company in the morning, then drawing houseplants in the afternoon before meeting with a local marketing start-up. We get a great insight into all sorts of different industries.

What are you hoping to achieve in the future?

Whilst graphic design is at the core of what we do, we love to take an illustrative approach wherever possible. I’d love to get back to my roots and spend more time drawing and exploring mark making like we were taught in art school. There’s something satisfying about making something truly unique.

What's an interesting fact about you?

When not at work I’m usually found in the great outdoors, either on foot or by bike. I’m never happier than when in a forest stomping about. Fresh air is great to fuel creativity!
